The Center for Arts Education
ArtsJam! A great night with Principal Ramon Gonzalez and tireless arts advocates Comptroller Scott Stringer and Council member Jimmy Van Bramer.
On Monday night, The Center for Arts Education (CAE) welcomed over 300 philanthropists and educators, politicos and art collectors to Affirmation Arts for ArtsJam 2014, a spectacular evening in celebration of the organization's mission to ensure every child in every school has a well-rounded education that includes the arts.
The event celebrated CAE’s work to provide sustainable arts programs in schools across the city, offer professional development for school leaders and classroom teachers and lead advocacy efforts to ensure equitable opportunities for all students to receive quality arts education from kindergarten through to high school graduation. CAE honored White House Champion of Change Principal Ramon Gonzales from MS223 X in the South Bronx, a CAE partner school.
The event began with a world-class photography auction curated by Bruce Silverstein of Bruce Silverstein Galleries. In a surprise performance, students from MS 421 marched into the main hall with a rousing drum line procession. As the sun went down the party went upstairs, for an intimate jazz performance from Jessica Lee of America’s Arts and Music Crossroads of Pittsburgh, and a full-tilt jam session featuring friends of the organization.
Guests included: Jill Braufman, Franco Harris, Abigail Scheuer, Richard Anderman, Gary Cohn and Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn, Amanda Richman Wurtz, Annie Pell, Nina Mitchell Wells, Monique and Eric Pryor, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, Ramon and Monica Gonzalez, Elizabeth Sarnoff, Craig Heryford, Angela Smith-Domzal, Bruce and Silka Silverstein, Joe Baio, Alan Momeyer and Janet Markoff, Leslie Harwood, Charles Traub, Marjorie and Fredrick Altschuler, and Ellie Manko Libby.
