Feb 28, 2015 - Thanksgiving in February for St. Francis Food Pantries
On Saturday, February 28, 2015, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters proved that the “spirit of giving” is not only limited to the holiday season. The Thirteenth Annual "Thanksgiving in February" luncheon, sponsored by Con Edison and Macy’s, was attended by over 400 clients who depend on the support of St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters year-round.
Guests enjoyed a savory Thanksgiving-style feast that included: turkey with gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, string beans and cranberry sauce, with brownies being a sweet treat! Music and dancing, balloon-sculpting, face painting - and even Spiderman - added to a truly fun filled day!
Dozens of corporate volunteers came prepared to roll up their sleeves, serve guests and do whatever necessary to ensure a great day was had by all.
Corporate Volunteer Leaders Frances Resheske – SVP of Public Affairs, Con Edison; Mitch Leventhal – Executive Vice President of Financial Planning, Macy’s and Fr. Michael Sliney – Chaplain, Lumen-Manhattan (and his group of volunteers from the Lumen Institute) were also present at the luncheon.
John McAvoy – CEO, Con Edison and his wife Mary were also in attendance for the duration of the special event.
On this day St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters, and each of its volunteers, displayed that giving back is a year-round notion!
