SOCIETY PHOTOGRAPHER ANNIE WATT RETURNS WITH NEW EXHIBIT FAMOUS: A DECADE OF THE CELEBRATED and THE LEGENDARY AT LAVERDIN GALLERY from DECEMBER 19th thru JANUARY 6, 2020
Martha Stewart, Sana Sabbagh, Geoffrey Bradfield, Donald and Barbara Tober, Eleanora and Anna Kennedy, Randy Jones, Anne Akers and Sharon Marantz Walsh hosted a private reception for celebrity and society photographer Annie Watt’s one woman show, Famous: A Decade of The Celebrated and The Legendary on Wednesday, December 18, 6-8 PM at the Laverdin Gallery, 445 Park Avenue (56th-57th Streets).
Tom Hanks, Blake Lively, Tony Bennett, Meryl Streep, Wendy Williams, Spike Lee, Hugh Jackman, Whoopi Goldberg, Wynton Marsalis, Iris Apfel, Jane Fonda, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Christie Brinkley, and Diane von Furstenberg are among Annie’s iconic subjects.
Many of the 350+ A-list guests and social fixtures to fill the room discovered their faces in the portraits on the gallery walls. Five photographers from the Annie Watt Agency photographed the guests and assisted them with their own cell phone cameras. In a very “meta” move, Watt invited guests to pose with their Black and White print and take a second shot, and post gratis to social media. Videographer David Dupuy interviewed many of the guests and the Portrait Booth provided another digital opportunity for a professional headshot.
People all know and love her from Watt’s years as a beloved presence among the movers and shakers in New York, Palm Beach and internationally. And that gives her exhibition's portraits their unique, intimate edge. The trust she inspires with her clients has translated into an ever-expanding agency that photographs over 300 private and public events a year.
Behind the scenes Annie is called “The Posing Expert” because of her ability to capture the heart and soul of her subjects. Advising subjects on how to present their best selves to the camera and their essence has earned Annie and the Annie Watt Agency a rarefied place in the halls of power, society and celebrity. “Annie is the consummate professional with an unparalleled artistic eye, shares Eleanora Kennedy. “I’m drawn to her beautiful photos like a bee to a flower.”
Annie received a four-year scholarship to the School of Visual Arts. In keeping with her philosophy “Doing Well By Doing Good” Annie is giving back by donating 100% of the proceeds from the exhibition’s print sales to the SVA Alumni department.
The exhibition Famous: A Decade of The Celebrated and The Legendary is on display from December 19, 2019 -January 6, 2020.
