59th Annual New York Junior League Winter Ball_March 5, 2011
March 5th, the New York Junior League (NYJL) celebrated 110 years of community service and honor Mary J. Blige and seven League members during its 59th annual Winter Ball, “Elegance Throughout Time.” Ms. Blige was presented with The Award for Leadership and Excellence as recognition of her incredible dedication to the empowerment of young women and her inspiring work as the co-founder of The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation For the advancement of Women Now. Guests celebrated the substantial body of
volunteer work done by the NYJL’s Outstanding Sustainers Deane Allen Gilliam and Diann Rohde and Outstanding Volunteers Shari Elizabeth Aser, Desiree Fish, Suzanne Manning, Laura Matiz and Caroline Tyburczy, while enjoying dinner and dancing at the iconic Plaza Hotel.
Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) served as mistress of ceremonies. First elected to Congress in 1992, Rep. Maloney is recognized as a national leader with extensive accomplishments on financial services, national security, the economy, and women’s issues. She is a senior member of both the House Financial Services Committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and immediate past Chair of the Joint Economic Committee.
Exciting live and silent auctions occurred throughout the evening, featuring a wide range of items, including Auction items include a Prada bag from the Spring 2011 Collection, a diamond pendant designed by Patricia Daughn, an exclusive golf outing for four at one of Trump Golf’s world-renowned courses, a seven-night stay at the Leading Hotels of the World’s Royal Myconian or Myconia Imperial Hotel in Greece, and a two-night stay for two at the Montage Deer Valley Hotel and Resort.
