American Friends Musée d’Orsay Present Madame Cézanne Lecture by Dita Amory
On February 12th, the American Friends of the Musée d'Orsay (AFMO) presented a lecture and reception hosted by French Consul General Bertrand Lortholary at the French Consulate in NY. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s own Dita Amory, Administrator of the Robert Lehman Collection, shared her concept and research on her current exhibition and catalogue, Madame Cézanne. The event celebrated four portraits that the Orsay and Orangerie loaned to this exhibition. The two museums lend thousands of works each year, many to US institutions. In 2015, such loans will travel to the Kimbell Art Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Norton Simon Museum, National Gallery of Art, and The Clark Art Institute, among others. AFMO publicizes such exhibitions and coordinates trips and events surrounding them.
Peter and Susan Solomon, AFMO Co-Chairs, and fellow Board members Nancy Staniar, who organized the lecture, Liz Kehler and Constance Spahn welcomed an estimable gathering of New York art enthusiasts, including: Allison Ecung, Bonnie Pope and Iliana Pappas, Claude Gerard, Constance Spahn, Dean Kehler, Deborah Nevins, Dennis and Debbie Larrison, Dita Amory, Ed Marschner, Ellen Jacobs, Francine Harris, Gary Goldstein and Jill Brooke, Greg Joye, Heather Ecker, Iliana Pappas, Jean de Castelnau, Jeremiah Evarts, Joan Gelman, Joe and Nancy Stein, Linda and David Frankel, Lucy Roch, Manuel Palazzo and Donna Salgado, Melinda Blinken, Melodie Carli, Mike and Joan Kahn, Nancy and Burton Staniar, Nick Schoenmakers, Peggy Danziger, Peter Solomon, Randal Gernaat, Sandy Pearl, Shaune Arp, Susan and Peter Solomon, the Honorable Bertrand Lortholary, Ulrich Leben and Liz Kehler.
The elegant evening received support from AFMO member Bruce Horten, Champagne Perrier-Jouët, and catering from Tastings by Payard. Annie Watt photographed the event. AFMO has become known for holding exceptional events connecting French and American art and culture. It has planned a fantastic Patrons' trip to Paris this April 23-26, including dinner in the Orangerie, receptions at the US and German Embassies, and exclusive art and fashion tours.
