FRENCH HERITAGE SOCIETY CELEBRATED ITS ANNUAL PALM BEACH GALA
On Wednesday, February 13th, French Heritage Society (FHS) held its Annual Palm Beach Gala Dinner at Club Colette, under the patronage of The Honorable Gaël de Maisonneuve, Consul General of France in Miami . Chairmen for the evening were FHS Chairman Elizabeth F. Stribling, FHS President Denis de Kergorlay, FHS Board member and Events Chairman CeCe Black, and FHS Palm Beach Chapter Chairman Robert L. Sterling, Jr.
Vice Chairmen included Audrey and Martin Gruss, Karen K. Clark, Dr. and Mrs. Gary B. Knapp, Lynn and John Pohanka, Suzette de Marigny Smith, Lysa and Greg Rohan, Ann and Bill Van Ness.
Other notable guests included: Cetie Ames, Countess Diane de La Bégassière, Lee Black, Zita Davisson, Scott and Ewa Diament, Annette Friedland, Cynthia Friedman, Bob and Beth Hardwick, Alexander and Robin Gaudieri, Mai Harrison, Ruth and Ed Hennessy, Hal B. Howard, Maggie and Nicholas Kirkbride, John D. Koch, Cynthia and Tony Maltese, Thomas McCarter, Patrick McMullan, The Honorable Mary Ourisman and Mr. Mandell Ourisman, Jay R. The Gala honored The Society of the Cincinnati (SOC), the nation’s oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served together in the American Revolution. Today’s members of SOC are the descendants of these officers. Accepting the honor on behalf of the Society was long-time FHS benefactor and SOC Treasurer General Nominee member, John C. Harvey who spoke eloquently about both organizations’ links to France . The SOC’s mission is to promote knowledge and appreciation of the achievement of American independence and to foster fellowship among its members. Now a nonprofit educational organization devoted to the principles and ideals of its founders, maintaining its headquarters, library and museum at Anderson House in Washington , D.C.
French Heritage Society was founded in 1982 to serve as a two way street for Americans and French to share their love of historic architecture. FHS has contributed to nearly 500 restoration grants and helped secure almost $18 million dollars for historic monuments, buildings and gardens in every department in France and to properties in the United States that reflect France’s historic influence. FHS has intervened after numerous natural disasters such as the 1999 storms in France and Hurricanes Hugo and Katrina in the U.S. FHS has also organized over 300 unique student internship opportunities in both countries and offers enriching cultural trips in France and the U.S. for its members. There are 13 Chapters in the United States and 1 in Paris .
