On Thursday, December 12, the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, in conjunction with the Pajama Program, hosted a Children’s Christmas Dinner at Chevalier Bill and Prior Ann Van Ness’ town house, for twenty-seven children from Hour Children. Hour Children is an organization in Long Island City that houses the children of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated mothers. The Order of St. John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest Orders of Chivalry in existence. Members of the Commandery of New York and their friends and guests gathered to benefit the children. Welcoming chair was Prior Ann Van Ness. Also attending were Dame Barbara Gross, Dame Diana Frankel, Dame Candace Gonzalez, Dame Claire Burke, Dame Peggy Donovan, Dame Judy Gates, Dame Sydney Renolds-Raniere and aspirant Doris Diamond. The evening began with a pizza and chicken fingers dinner and culminated with a visit from Santa Claus who brought pajamas and books for all of the children. The event was a successful effort to share holiday cheer with vulnerable youngsters living under difficult circumstances.
