On Friday, October 4th, 2013 his Royal Highness, The Prince Andrew, Duke of York, was honored at the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard & Airmen’s Club’s (SSMAC) 17th Annual Military Ball held at the Hotel Pierre in New York City. SSMAC also saluted Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations, United States Navy and ABC news correspondent Bob Woodruff. During the festivities, the Duke of York was presented with the first “Hands Across the Sea Award.” Accepting the “Distinguished Leadership Award” for Admiral Greenert was SSMAC Chairman and CEO, Ivan Obolensky. Bob Woodruff received the “Distinguished Media Achievement Award.” Each year, SSMAC salutes a branch of the United States military. This year, the United States Navy and the Royal Navy were honored. Members of the military, veterans and supporters annually attend this event to pay tribute to our brave men and women who have served their country. Among those who attended the Military Ball were: Ivan Obolensky; Lord Nicholas Windsor; John and Margo Catsimatidis; Cynthia and Tony Maltese; Margaret and Gregory Hedberg; Countess Nicholas Bobrinskoy; Colonel Mark Maddick, (British Military Advisor to UN); Rita Cosby; Jacqueline Astor Drexel; Mitzi Perdue; Helen Roosevelt; Ari Fleischer and Cavalier Philip Bonn.
SSMAC, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization relies solely on private donations and receives no state or federal Funding. All proceeds from the Military Ball are tax-deductible and support SSMAC and its mission of “Serving Those Who Have Served Their Country”. Since 1919, Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard & Airmen’s Club (SSMAC) has served America’s military personnel, American allies and all military veterans with “Home Away From Home Accommodations” in the heart of New York City.
