On Monday, May 13th, the Rebuilding Afghanistan Foundation (RAF), a non-profit organization entirely staffed by volunteers from New York’s business and philanthropic communities, celebrated RAF’s Ten Year Anniversary with “A Cocktail with a Queen – Gawhar Shad of Herat.” The event’s highlight was a fashion show featuring the tailored and magnificent pieces of Zarif Designs by designer Zolaykha Sherzad. Zarif Designs are worn by the likes of Kate Hudson, Duchess Camilla of Cornwall, and Queen Farah Pahlavi of Iran. Other highlights included stunning raffle prizes from Buccellati Blossoms; Manhattan’s preeminent salon, Garren New York and Modo Eyeware.
RAF is a U.S.-based 501(c)3 founded in 2003 and co-directed by Alisa Tugberk and Elizabeth Hartnett. RAF brings education to Afghan children by raising money in the private sector to fund US-registered charities building schools and developing educational programs in Afghanistan. In the past ten years, RAF funded almost ten projects and over 5,000 students benefited from RAF’s work.
