“Thanksgiving in February”
It is in the bleakest moments that St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters shine the brightest.
Every November New York is abundant with Thanksgiving meals for the poor served in many locations across town. Unfortunately, with the passing of the holidays many New Yorkers refocus their energy to their personal lives and forget about the needs of the less fortunate. St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters hosted its Twelfth Annual "Thanksgiving In February" feast on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Dozens of corporate employees volunteered at the luncheon sponsored by Con Edison and Macy's. Celebrity Volunteer Constantine Maroulis, Broadway star and former American Idol finalist, also helped to serve meals and partake in an afternoon of serving others.
Hundreds of guests, who are clients of St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters network of food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters were treated to a traditional sit-down Thanksgiving meal. The highlights of the menu included: turkey with gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, string beans and cranberry sauce.
Guests also enjoyed music and live entertainment in the form of face painting, balloon sculpting, a magician and even Spider-Man himself! Special treats, donated items and meals to go were also provided to everyone who attended.
Corporate Volunteer Leaders Frances Resheske – SVP of Public Affairs, Con Edison and Mitch Leventhal – Executive Vice President of Financial Planning, Macy’s were also present at the luncheon.
Together, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters and all of its volunteers displayed that although the holiday season is over - GIVING BACK is year round.
