Artist & philanthropist Adria de Haume was feted at a private party given by George and Joan Hornig in honor of her new book CROSSPURPOSE
Joan and George Hornig hosted a book party for Adria de Haume in honor of her newly released book Cross Purpose, published by Assouline. The party began Monday evening on a terrace overlooking the northwestern view of Manhattan, while the sun set behind Central Park. The book, dedicated to theauthor’s son, catalogues 26 years of the artist’s sculptures, drawings, paintings, photographs and prints, many of which have been exhibited in national museums and are owned by notable private collectors.The guest list included notable business and design world luminaries such as Madge & Martin Miller, Edgar M. Cullman Jr., Arthur Bavelas, Michelle Ateyeh, Amelia Ogunlesi, Eve Xanthopoulos, Jane Preiser, Hearst’s Jeanette Chang, Gerard Beekman, Adria’s step-daughter, Amanda Ross, Maggie Nimkin, Han Feng, Claudia Aronow, Applico partners Alex Moazed & Will Roush (with Kim Cafferelli,) Suzanne Sobel, Karen Klopp, Sarah & Barry Kieselstein, Andy Langberg, Christie’s Mary Libby, Elise Schachter, Martha Glass, Hector Baldonado, Fabio Rodriquez and Victoria Kaplan dressed in Maggie Norris Couture.
Following cocktails, Joan summoned her guests to participate in a Q and A with the author. Adria spoke from her heart about the genesis of the visually stunning book which documents 26 years of her cross artwork. The book includes tributes to other artists, musicians, entertainers, fashion designers, poets, authors, saints and the saintly. The author spoke eloquently about some of the stories behind crosses that touched her life, particularly the homage to great humanitarian Raoul Wallenberg, one for abstract American painter Joan Mitchell, and another to commemorate the birth of her nephew.
