Nov 8, 2013-New England Society's 208th Annual Dinner at the Metropolitan Club
On Friday, November 8, the New England Society in the City of New York hosted its 208th Annual Dinner at the Metropolitan Club. Members and friends gathered to honor Deborah and Charles Royce with the Reginald T. Townsend Award. The fundraising event supports the Society’s scholarship program for New York City students attending New England colleges and universities.
The Royces are actively involved in the restoration of numerous buildings and “Main Street” revitalization projects in New York and New England, including the Avon Theatre Film Center, a 1939 landmark in Stamford, CT, and The Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. Upon accepting their award, Deborah and Charles spoke about the importance of creating a sense of community and place through this work, and how they weave their individual passions together through their restoration projects.
The 200 guests in attendance enjoyed dancing to the music of the Alex Donner Orchestra and bidding in the Silent Auction. A terrific evening was had by all thanks to co-chairs Mary Latimer-Chung, Harry Chung, and Arnold and Hilda Neis.
